Joost's Kaptein Mobylette

The mobylette was a model EEG 10, A Kaptein Mobylette model of the Motobecane AV 42. Kaptein Mobylette build mopeds in Holland, under license of Motobecane. It was build in 1967. In the 50's.  My parents both owned a Mobylette AV31 which (Like my EEG 10, originally) came equipped with a bicycle front fork. He bought two forks, like the one you see on my EEG and build these on the AV 31's.These forks were sold separately, for people, who had bought an auxiliary engine for their standard bicycle and wanted a smoother ride. I've only seen a picture of on other one, on a market site, so I don't think many survived. There is no brand mark whatsoever on it, so this is all I can tell you about it. The one on my EEG survived through the years, under the workbench in  my dad's workshop, until I rescued it and built it on my bicycle, before, later, as I was re-doing my EEG, realized it would look great on that. It was ugly and rusty, but after disassembly, stripping , painting and re-chroming, it looked super. Because of the look and because it is a little higher, it gave my little Moby this surprising  old-school chopper feel. It did about 45 mph and after the engine exploded finally, last year, I found that someone before me  had given the cylinder and the piston some treatment. I rebuild the engine with parts, accumulated through the years, and it runs like a sewing machine again. Not as fast anymore, but I'll fix that later.
